Currently, I am the sole proprietor of three businesses. For Rikki Van Camp Photography, I photograph events, people and places for various businesses for promotional and in house purposes.
I also own and manage two online business, Bare Bulb Studio www.etsy.com/shop/RikkiVanCamp and The Atomic Attic www.etsy.com/shop/TheAtomicAttic. On Bare Bulb Studio I offer my own artwork (photography and assemblage art) for sale. I create, studio photograph, list, package and ship all items sold.
For the Atomic Attic site I offer vintage items for sale. I source, research, repair, maintain inventory, studio photograph, list, package and ship all items sold.
I manage all administrative tasks associated with being the owner of these three businesses; budgeting, purchasing, billing, shipping, IT management and tax preparation.
As the photo editor for both Wolfe Newspaper Publications and for Messenger Post Newspapers / Gatehouse Media, I managed the photo department for ten weekly publications and one daily publication. I worked and thrived in an environment that was deadline driven, high volume and very fast paced. I led a team of full time photographers as well as a varying number of freelancers. I hired, trained and worked closely with them to develop their photographic skills. As a mentor to both full time staff and freelancers I would encourage them to hone their communication abilities, develop patience as well as an understanding of the technical and artistic aspects of photography thereby enabling them to bring back work that showcased their individual talent as photographers. I took great pleasure in seeing the photographers succeed and become confident and sought after professionals.
My position as photo editor also required me to work worked closely with department editors and reporters to understand the stories they wanted to tell and develop art ideas to complement them. I then assigned the shoots to the photo staff and established, and met, all deadlines. I was fortunate to be able to photograph for stories as well.
My other responsibilities included managing the financial and day to day aspects of the photography department, including performance appraisals, disciplinary reviews, paying freelancers, billing, maintaining camera equipment and recommending purchases. I also assisted in managing the overall photography operations budget.
